halloween sprinkles...

My little one decorated these sticky beauties last night...complete with horns, eyes, teeth, and just a few sprinkles.  In the past when we've made sugar cookies, she's only been slightly interested and has become bored and off to the next thing within a few minutes.  This year, she spent the whole evening decorating, sprinkling, pretending to be a chef and hosting her own cooking show.  Every cookie has her own special touch on it and I loved sitting back and listening to her chatter.  Age eight has been so much fun.

A couple of creations for you today, the first created for Emma's Paperie and is based on a sketch there.  I used my favorite new finding...the Generations collection from Simple Stories.

Yes Sir, I've jumped on the Pinterest bandwagon and all I have to say is , what in the world took me so long! I love you Pinterest.   

The thoughts of having so many beautiful things to gaze at, enjoy, and to inspire me whenever I need that creative push or nudge is wonderful!  

I love typing in an ingredient when I'm stumped as to what to make for dinner and *poof* all of these delicious dishes pop up that have been tried and tested and are favorites of mamas everywhere.  

I am so thankful for all of you amazingly creative individuals out there who make beautiful things for your home, friends, family, and others and then share them.

the witching hour...

The countdown to Halloween is underway and I created this fun project to help things along.  I had a large black metal frame just waiting to be dressed up and altered and I knew that it would make be a perfect countdown to Halloween calendar.

I used vinyl, glass baubles, magnets, crepe paper garland, a clothespin, gems, vintage trim, and many other items.

I downloaded all of the images for free HERE at Suaviloquy...they are SO beautiful.  And more images I used were downloaded for free HERE at Simply KellyB...she's so crafty.  I love her projects.

sizzix fresh vintage: scoreboard suitcase...

I'm so happy to be participating in the Sizzix Fresh Vintage blog hops.  Creating with the amazing dies has been a breath of fresh air and has pushed me out of my comfort zone...I love it when that happens.

The Sizzix Suitcase is ADORABLE and so simple to use.  What I love most is that it is easy to transform to suit whatever creative project you may have in mind.  

As I mentioned earlier, I have stepped out of my comfort zone a bit with this project.  I have been seeing owls everywhere lately and have wanted to create one of my own, so when my die arrived, I knew it was time to take on the challenge and transform the suitcase into a shabby owl.

After cutting the suitcase from Sizzix Mat Board, I coated each surface using Tattered Angels Cotton Candy Chalkboard Glimmer Mist then assembled the suitcase with two strips of adhesive and four brads.  They are so easy to assemble...which leaves more time for the fun stuff on the outside.  

I started out with Melissa Frances 5th Avenue paper cut into rows and rows of scallops with Melissa Frances pom pom trim in between each row.

Two oval wings were cut from felt and embellished with vintage trim and Melissa Frances adhesive gems.

Circles and vintage buttons were used as the eyes and then of course a Melissa Frances applique crown and a bow to dress her up just a bit more.  The Vanilla Bean scrunched seam binding is one of my favorite colors you can find at My Craft Spot. 

A Melissa Frances glitter chipboard heart was turned upside down and used as her feet, and the tip of a heart was used as her beak.   The sentiment was trimmed from a Melissa Frances Mini Flashcard and rolled a bit to form a scroll.  I know she's a little abstract, but I had so much fun making her.

In the photo above you can see the depth of the suitcase.  It's just the right size to fill with vintage treasures to share with a friend, some chocolates perhaps, or any number of thoughtful treats.

a kiss and a kitten...

My little one lost her first top tooth just a few days ago.  It had been loose for a few weeks and she was scared to death to have her daddy or myself pull it, so we just waited...and waited...and waited.  I couldn't wait to see what she'd look like with her little Jack-O-Lantern grin.  Everything we experience with her is a first for us, so it's just as exciting for us as it is for her.  She ended up running into a wall during P.E. and knocked it right out.  I have been laughing about it ever since as the incident fits her and her personality perfectly.  She's always up for an adventure and so it is a perfect story for her to tell.  That night, she wrote a letter to the Tooth Fairy asking for a kiss and a kitten...no money please.  It was a challenge for that poor little fairy, but she handled it magically. Anyway, her daddy and I have been enjoying her new lisp and smile.

Today's project was created to fit a challenge at The Shabby Tea Room where we were asked to create something in a Halloween theme with purple, orange, black, neutrals, and twine or raffia, based on the photo below.

I created Halloween treat bags embellished in all sorts of fun Halloween images and such.  The crepe paper garland can be found at Caramelos, the scrunched seam binding from My Craft Spot,  some of the vintage images are from Crafty Secrets Double Sided Halloween Creative Scraps, and some are from Made by Janet.

Today's project uses some beautiful Melissa Frances products from the new Deck the Halls collection and 5th Avenue collection.  

Melissa Frances appliques are used here and there along with glitter chipboard flowers, tinsel, and pom pom trim. 

I used vintage book print and trims, and sweet findings that I've been collecting for a little while.

Memriemare German glass glitter stars, satin angel wings,  Maya Road wooden spools and small crocheted doilies.

And, scrunched seam binding in Cranberry from My Craft Spot.

peace, love, and witches...

Switching gears over to Christmas ~ for just a minute or two.  I think that's what makes this time of year so much fun...the fact that there is so much to celebrate, to look forward to, and to enjoy.

I pulled out my Cricut machine for this project and created a matching card and tag using the Joys of the Season cartridge and new, lovely Melissa Frances papers.  I also used Papertrey Ink's Love Lives Here:  Holiday, Think Big Favorites #8, and Holly Jolly stamp sets.  

Now onto something fit for October.

I used another sweet vintage image from Made by Janet along with the Fall Elegance and Friendship Jar:  Fall Fillers stamp sets.  

The scrunched seam binding is from Craft Spot, paper from My Mind's Eye, and die cut and dimensional sticker from K&Co.

caramel apple cheesecake...

What a beautiful fall weekend it has been.  I did something so fun with my little family yesterday...something completely foreign to me, and it ended up being one of the best days ever. My husband took my little girl and I to the NASCAR Truck Series race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  Like I said...never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd find myself at a truck race, but I loved every minute of our adventure together including picking up two of Sierra's cousins and having two crazy but darling boys with us the entire day...we loved it.  It was just what I needed to recharge.

My first card tonight was created for The Shabby Tea Room and was inspired by the above photo.  Our challenge this week was to create something based on the photo and to include a dry embossed element.   I used an embossing folder from Provo Craft on my card base and topped it with creamy paper, pumpkin orange elements, and a dimensional sticker with a sentiment that was so suitable for my feelings after such a fun weekend with my favorite people.

The dimensional sticker and brads are from My Mind's Eye, paper from Making Memories, flower from Prima, and scrunched seam binding from Craft Spot.  

My next project is based on a color challenge at Emma's Paperie.  

I used a clear treat bucket and embellished the outside with Pink Paislee's Phantom collection, buttons, and May Arts ribbon.  It is filled with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and more delicious Godiva Caramel Apple Chocolate.  These treat buckets make the cutest gifts.  I love being able to see through to what is inside but dressing up the outside to match the contents at the same time.

Lastly, a card created with Papertrey Ink's Been Boo'd stamp set, and vintage images from Made by Janet.  Halloween will be here and gone before we know it.  I love creating cards for this fun time of year and will be sad when it's over.  

I added a stamped hat to one of the Jack 'O lanterns just for fun.  The Cabbage Roses Ribbon is from Memriemare.  

And, one last item...if you're looking for a yummy fall treat, I woke up bright and early this morning to make these....Caramel Apple Cheescake Bars.

merry october...

I'm worn right out tonight but won't be able to post for a couple of days, so I thought I'd post my Papertrey Ink release projects for you before I disappear for a little bit.  So many sweet and unique sets to enjoy and explore.  

We'll start with the Shape Up Snowman Accessories set...goodness, who can resist it?

The Shape-Up Series:  Snowman die is irresistible and I just love that the stamp set is ready and waiting to easily add character and your own special touches.  

I used the Think Big Favorites #9 set to add the sentiment down the side of my wooden block.  I love these large font sets so much.  

Next up is a beautiful little set...Christmas Poinsettia, complete with coordinating dies and the most lovely sentiments.  

I used the Front & Center #1 die to create a gift pocket to hold some vintage items to present as a gift for Christmas.  I can't say enough about the Front & Center die...such a fun, fun, fun concept.  

Now onto a set designed by Heather, Winterberry...I adore her sets.  They have that country, cozy, homespun feel to them that really appeals to me.  

I mixed in colorful, festive words cut using the new Wonderful Words:  Holiday die collection...very addicting I tell you.  

The sweet Tremendous Treats:  Christmas set is filled with darling images.  

This month holds some of the most beautiful religious sets I have ever seen...this first card uses the Star of Wonder set.  

I mixed in a few elements from the Nativity Silhouettes and Nativity Silhouettes Additions sets.  

This card also uses the Nativity Silhouettes and Nativity Silhouettes Additions sets.  

The new Gift Card Greetings die makes it so easy to create personalized and unique gifts this holiday season.  I used the Tag-Its #9 set on this.  

Now onto a set that can be used year-round...the new Flower Fusion #9 set in conjunction with the Front & Center #1 die again.  

The tags were cut using the Mega Mat Stack 3 and Layerz Mat Stack 3 dies.  

And lastly, a perfect addition to the October release, the Faith & Hope set with coordinating die.   I love this set.

2011 holiday tags...

More holiday fun continues as we embark on the second Papertrey Ink group post for October. What would gift giving through the holidays be without beautiful tags and dies to make that special gift even more thoughtful and personal?  The 2011 Holiday Tag set is beautiful...lots of style and oodles of variety mixed with Nichole's classy, signature touches.  

I created a cookie pocket to give as a fun neighbor gift.  The simple, plain, Jane, brown paper bag has been dressed up and country-fied...the homespun feel is my favorite look for Christmas.  I used the new Tag Sale #5 die and layered it over a snowflake cut using the Damask Snowflake die.  

A tulle bow at the top and then Vintage Cream felt holly berry leaves, cut using the Holly Jolly die collection,  embellish the center of the bow.

Down the side of the bag, one of my most favorite new additions this release..."merry" cut using the Wonderful Words:  Holiday die collection.  

The coordinating card uses the very same elements and dies.  The tag image and sentiment were stamped using VersaMark Watermark Ink pad and embossed with Adirondack Espresso embossing powder.

I love the color combination for this homespun feel:  Scarlet Jewel, Kraft, and Rustic Cream.  The patterned paper is from Simple Stories and the rusty jingle bells are from Frost it Pink.

in the meadow...

Welcome to the first Papertrey Ink group post of October.  Designed by Nichole, this sweet and unique new set is filled with nostalgic images and festive sentiments that I love.  They speak of Christmases gone by and wonderful, familiar traditions.  

Along with the In the Meadow stamp set, coordinating silhouette dies are available making it possible to created depth and dimension....AND then...Nichole has also designed a snowdrift die which enables you to take your project to another level by adding more layering, patterns, glitter, texture, etc.  

I created a framed ornament using a resin frame from Melissa Frances .  The  silhouette die was used as my focal point.  It was simply cut from black cardstock and layered on sheet music.  The snowdrift die was cut from Vintage Cream cardstock and then coated in Lily White Sugar Coating to add sparkle.  The snowflake was die cut from Vintage Cream cardstock as well using the Peace Be Still die collection.  It was stamped with a VersaMark Watermark stamp pad and embossed using Jeweled Gold embossing powder.

I created a banner to stamp my sentiment on and edged it with Golden Rod Stickles.  Trim and chandelier drops hang from the bottom of the ornament.

amber waves of grain...

There is something so magical and serene about a field full of wheat.  It fascinates me and seems to speak of home.  We lived in Idaho for a couple of summers early in our marriage while my husband held internship positions and I can honestly say I have never seen anything as beautiful as endless fields of grain gently blowing in the breeze.  

Needless to say, today I used one of my favorite Papertrey Ink stamp sets called First Fruits with its sweet bundle of wheat.  The sentiments are a mix from this set and the Fall Elegance set.  The chipboard frame is from Tattered Angels and was coated in Glimmer Mist.

A few weeks ago I was contacted and asked if I would be interested in participating in a fundraiser for Katie Renz...a woman I had never met before, but with whom I felt instantly connected.  I was immediately touched after reading her story and felt compelled to share it with you here.  Katie’s cancer story started just before Christmas last year.  This young, beautiful, healthy, vibrant mother of three with her infectious smile was suddenly diagnosed with an inoperable cancer, virtually overnight.  A few tummy aches and then stage 4 gastric cancer.  Her first post about it is here.  The idea of “Swimming for Katie” came from her recent post here.  Her story truly touched my heart and I felt the need to spread her story with the hope that somehow it may help.

fresh fall flowers...

Another week means another photo inspiration from The Shabby Tea Room.  I am having so much fun letting the photos inspire me and the colors chosen for this week have to be my most favorite yet.  I love the combination so much that I created two cards...I'll share the second tomorrow.  

We were challenged to let the photo (shown below) inspire us, and to use flowers...a bonus would be using a handmade flower.  I used fabric squares cut using Papertrey Ink's Button Card Die and used them as my background.  I also added in coordinating paper from Jenni Bowlin and Cosmo Cricket and Vintage Cream felt from Papertrey Ink as well.  I wanted to create a quilted look, so I stitched an "x" in the center of each square and then layered on the embellishments including a handmade ribbon flower I made using Fine Linen Grosgrain from Papertrey Ink, Prima velvet leaves and adhesive pearls.  

The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink's Fall Elegance stamp set, and the purple and glittery, gold acorn from the Autumn Acorns set.  I used my latest addiction to bring in the sparkle...Ranger Crystal Stickles.  I LOOOOVE this stuff.

Here's to cozy fires, warm socks, hot cocoa, cinnamon candles, plump pumpkins, rosy, red noses, sweaters, simmering soups, apple pies, and rustling leaves.  

I created this paper bag pocket, inspired by Mish, using printable images once again from Made by Janet, tea-stained twill tape, K& Co. dimensional stickers, WRMK chipboard stickers and paper, Making Memories and My Mind's Eye paper, and the following stamp sets from Papertrey Ink:  Autumn Acorns, Rustic Branches, and Spooky Sweets II.  

The canvas hearts are from Basically Bare and the die cut angel wings from the Love Lives Here:  Holiday collection.

baby love...

My project today was created for Emma's Paperie.  I have had a crush on a manufacturer called Simple Stories for quite some time, so I was tickled when each designer at Emma's was asked to highlight Simple Stories and use their products on our latest creations.  I quickly snagged some of the Baby Steps collection and set to work.  Creating baby themed projects has always been one of my very most favorite things to do.  Just within the last week and only two days apart I have had a new nephew and niece born...one more niece due today, and another nephew due just before Halloween.  I always get teary when I think about how special they are...how incredibly miraculous their arrivals are, and how very blessed their parents are and I am to have them in my life.

fresh vintage...

Welcome to the Sizzix Fresh Vintage Blog Hop.   I was invited to create something for you using the Sizzix Scoreboards Die Butterfly...it's such a sweet die with so many possibilities.  

I used papers, chipboard, and cardstock stickers from the Melissa Frances 5th Avenue collection along with rub-on transfers, applique frame, and pocket also from Melissa Frances.  I filled the completed pocket with Godiva Caramel Apple chocolates for a fun "thinking of you" gift, but it could easily hold a handmade card set, vintage trims and buttons to share with a friend, or any number of things.  

I created the butterfly by first die cutting it from two coordinating patterned papers, inking the edges, layering them, and then coating them with Lily White Doodlebug Sugar Coating.  I then layered on the embellishments to make the butterfly special and unique.  The scrunched seam binding can be found at Craft Spot.

oak and aspen...

Two of my most favorite trees.  If I could live with my home snuggled into a grove of aspen trees, I'd never leave.  I grew up in an area where these trees where in abundance, and then, well....followed my Love to the desert.  We have our own version of fall here and it's definitely beautiful in its own way, but I must admit that when autumn rolls around, I get homesick for the sound of the aspen leaves blowing gently in the cool air, and the warm, rich colors of gold and red surrounding me.  I love the way the trees turn into blossiming flowers in the fall.  

I am the Guest Designer this month at The Shabby Tea Room and for our challenge this week, were given a fall image to base our creations on.  

I created a card using the colors found in this photo along with a warm, autumn wreath.  I used Papertrey Ink's  Wreath for All Seasons  stamp set.  This is one of my very most favorite sets.  I also used Papertrey Ink's Mega and Layerz Mat Stack 2 dies,  My Mind's Eye and Basic Grey paper, tea-stained and dyed twill tape, and vintage trim.

P.S.  My little one has a new haircut.  Her stylist was her 8 year old cousin.  He's got mega talent and vision I tell you.  I'm slightly traumatized.  It's not a huge chunk of hair missing, and bless his heart, he did leave about 1 1/2" remaining in his chosen area.  Her hair goes to her bottom, so for heaven sake, a little chunk whacked out of the front will never even be noticed, right. :)
