red, white, & blue...

Hello friends!  Have you adjusted to the lazy days of summer yet?  I'm having a bit of a hard time as our summer has been on fast forward it seems.  July should bring on the lazy I hope.  

Today's card is just for fun, using up my itty bitty scraps cut using my Cover Plate:  Hexagon die, Happy Hexagons stamp set, Love Lives Here die, and Lovely Layers die.  

The sweet papers I used are all from Authentique...I tell you the 6x6 paper pads are my most favorite thing on earth.  So perfect for card makers.  I used paper from their Glory and Carefree collections.   

The sentiments was stamped in Papertrey Ink's Enchanted Evening and uses the On the Farm stamp set.

6 flip flops...

I'm homesick today...strange to think that I can still feel this way from time to time, but I do, and I am.  My little one and I along with my parents made a quick trip this week to see my brothers and their little ones.  I love getting together, but the feeling I am left with afterwards, always makes me a little blue.  I miss them all, big and small and wish that it were more than once a year that we all gathered together.  I feel very thankful to have them in my life though, and I have sweet memories to make me smile as well.  One of the places we visited together was the zoo...I remember the 3 pair of flip flops running here and there, jumping, splashing, skipping, hopping, and full of life.  I remember picking up those flip flops and putting them back on little feet, more than once.  Those sweet little kiddos together make my heart melt.  And then, the next day, the "biggers" joined us...the older nieces and nephews who I am so inspired by.  Their goodness and happiness light up the world I tell you.  I love each of them.

Just a couple of fun cards to share with you today, both created for Emma's Paperie.  This first card is based on a sketch you can find there and was made with all sorts of delicious Crate Paper goodies and a few other toppings thrown in.  You can find all of the supplies used on this card HERE at Emma's.

things i love...

The mountains, fresh air, no cell phones, no internet, a cozy sleeping bag, campfires, sticky fingers and faces from S'mores, canoe rides, pine and aspen trees, Dutch Oven Potatoes, Granny's homemade biscuits cooked over the campfire for breakfast, homemade apricot jam, hikes, staring up at the stars while falling asleep, my sweet husband who has very gently eased me into being a camper :)

I'm home again and enjoying my warm shower and soft bed but have the most wonderful memories of out latest camping trip.  I LOVED it...and I'm not really a super great camper.  I will most definitely be looking forward to next year though.

My most favorite new item...Melissa Frances Zipper Ribbon!  It comes pleated so that it curves naturally and makes creating flowers so easy and fun.  Jewel Buttons and Reproduction Glass Buttons....oh my, they are so lovely.  Sweet Ivory Suede Leaves from Freckled Fawn and crinkle ribbon from My Craft Spot.

oh happy day...

We spent part of the day at the pool today...such a perfectly toasty day, and the pool was the perfect solution to help us cool off for a bit.  I'm loving every minute of summer.  This weekend we will be camping, roughing it, making S'mores, having Dutch Oven dinners, getting dirty, and enjoying our time together.  

I have a few fun gift wrap and card sets to share with you today.  The first and last were created for a friend of mine and use Crate Paper's Pretty Party collection... the sweetest thing on earth I tell you.  You can shop Emma's Paperie for the entire collection if you're on the search for it.  I love the juicy brights, and soft pastels mixed together.

apricot season....

It's that time of year when surprises end up on your doorstep...summer squash, zucchini, bags of apricots, carrots, beans for snapping, you know, summer fresh produce.  I love it all and am so thankful to have others share it with me as our garden is non-existent this year until we build a fence.  The wild horses sure enjoyed our garden last year.  

I've got a load of super ripe apricots to fit into my schedule within the next two days, so today I started on apricot jam.  LOVE this stuff, especially on freshly baked bread, now if only I knew how to make freshly baked bread :)  

I'm very much looking forward to some zucchini...it's probably my favorite summer veggie besides peas, but I don't think anyone shares peas...they are too delicious to share.

My card today uses Papertrey Ink's Chevron Stripes Border dies, Background Basics:  Houndstooth, and Star Prints stamp sets.  The paper is from My Mind's Eye, Pink Paislee, and Melissa Frances.  The sweet organza flowers are from Maya Road, and there's a touch of vintage trim and my tea-stained twill here as well.

Hello Sunshines!  It's a beautiful Saturday here in the desert, nice and toasty, crispy, hot, scorching, you know.  Let's see, today I am home with a crew of workers here to put stone on our fireplace.  I'm so excited to see it all come together.  They are finishing up rock on the outside of the house and will begin the process of bringing it all inside now.  It's going to be so pretty!  What's on your list of to-do items today?  I need to make a few Father's Day cards.  My husband, father-in-law, grandpa, uncle, brothers, and brothers-in-law are taking a boys trip to Alaska here soon to catch some fish.  There happens to be a Sportsman's Warehouse in Anchorage were they'll fly into, so their gifts this year are gift cards to do a little shopping once they get there.  

I have some fun projects to share with you today created with the sweetest kit in the world. The ohDEERme kits put together through Freckled Fawn, include indie crafts from various small business owners. Their goal is to promote businesses, inspire creativity, and supply hundreds with happy mailboxes full of loveliness. Each month a package will be available filled with handcrafted goodies, craft supplies from small businesses, and vintage loveliness--everything a girl needs to freckle her creativity with loveliness.

This card just makes me happy inside and out.  The Bingo card, rosette, Kraft tag, and Flair badge are all pieces of this kit.  I also used Papertrey Ink's Hellow Sushine here for my sentiment.  

I've put together a few projects using items found inside the June kit.  There is something so special about working with handcrafted embellishments and products.  I was excited to see some of my friend Shelley's Flair badges included in this kit...love her trendy cameras and woodgrain hearts!

Handstitched tags...who could possibly resist?  I added some Vintage Postal Washi and Glitter tape, but the sweet sunshine yellow tape comes in the kit.  The stamps added to my card are from Papertrey Ink and include Military Hero, Heart-2-Heart #5, and Road Trip.  

The paper used on the above cards is from Crate Paper's Storyteller collection.  My new favorite addiction!

These darling paper bows are also included in the kit.  So irresistible.  I created some Summer treat bags and used them at the top to dress them up a bit.

And, my heart skipped a beat when I found my Tiny Tags die used to cut cork tags for this kit.  I never would have dreamed, but they are the cutest things I have ever laid eyes on.  The memo tags are also included in the kit.  For the treat bags I used Papertrey Ink's Friendship Jar Summer Fillers and Strawberry Patch stamp sets.  

Lastly are little mini envelopes found at Papertrey Ink that I dressed up and created tags from.  The paper rosettes, Kraft tag, and Flair button from the kit...love the happy colors combined together.

The backside of the envelope tag shows more of the washi tape and then a darling Pixie camera sticker found in the kit as well.  I had so much fun creating with these wonderful handmade treats.

papertrey ink june...

Today I am sharing my Papertrey Ink projects for June.  This has been such a fun month with so many new, favorite stamp sets to add to my collection.  We'll begin with the following project, a layout about the Little Bean in my life who happens to be spending a few days away with her cousins.  I was missing her and decided to pull out an older photo of her and reminisce a bit.

I used so many of the new sets on this page including We Go Together, Happy Hexagons, Hello Sunshine, Think Big Favorites #17, and Heart-2-Heart #5.  

I'm crazy about the Hello Sunshine and Cover Plate:  Hexagons dies...they just make stamping and creating so much fun.

I used Freckled Fawn's Lace and Glitter Tape as well as Washi Tape.  

I ran the glitter tape through my die cut machine using the Eyelet Border die to create this fun little accent along the edge of my page....such a fun and easy technique.

This card also uses the We Go Together and Happy Hexagons stamp sets.  I love the sentiments and fonts in Dawn's new set.  

More glitter tape used here die cut with the Rickrack die, and a row of Happy Hexagons along the fold.

I trimmed apart the Lovely Layers die to create Vintage Cream felt leaves to accent the top of this sweet glassine bag and tag from Melissa Frances.  

This next card just makes me smile.  I LOVE the new Heart-2-Heart #5 set and coordinating die...it's just sweet and simple.  

I combined the banner image in this set with the Happy Hexagon set and Cover Plate:  Hexagons dies.  Across the top are Aqua Mist and a Lemon Tart button with Pure Poppy grosgrain along with more Freckled Fawn trim tape.

I couldn't wait to use the new Desktop File Center die as a tag and created one for this little treat bag.  I also used the Desktop File:  Inspiration, Think Big Favorites #17, and Happy Hexagons sets here using Sweet Blush, Spring Moss, and Classic Kraft as my color combination.  The shabby trim across the top is from Melissa Frances.

The Happy Hexagons and Cover Plate:  Hexagons remind me so much of honeycomb, so I knew from the beginning I wanted to create a little something along those lines.  I have a quilted table runner on my kitchen table in these colors and love the warmth it holds, so my color combo is based on that and uses Scarlet Jewel, Smokey Shadow, Ripe Avocado, and touches of mustard.

Two very special sets this release are the Military Stars and the Military Hero sets...I love everything they represent not to mention the wonderful images and distressed images and sentiments.

I also used the new Limitless Layers:  2.25" Squares die collection and my favorite technique, distressed chipboard.

I die cut a star from the center of a block of Vintage Cream felt using the Seeing Stars die and matted in against patterned paper from Authentique.  And, thank heavens for the Super Stars Border die...I love it and use it so often.

desktop file: inspiration...

Welcome again to another Papertrey Ink group post.  Today's post is a bit unique but so much fun!  This stamp set and file concept was designed by Nichole Heady and features concepts by Dawn McVey.  
It's a set designed to coordinate with all three of the Desktop File dies and Rolodex filing systems and includes everything you need to create an easy to manage system for filing bits & pieces of inspiration. From color combinations to sketches, techniques and so much more.

My take on this stamp set and system is probably a bit different from others as I seem to think in non-traditional ways, but one thing that is very important to me is to create things that inspire me and make me want to look and touch, even in my file system shown here.  This sits on my desk in my craft room and in starting this system I knew I wanted it to be something special, more of a decor piece filled with bits of me and my style.  I have started filling it with ideas that float about in my mind or that I see online and have found it to be so much fun to sit down and let an idea come to life quickly and document it on an index card, ready to be put to use later.

I chose to focus mainly on the Embellishments category and have a few samples to show you my take on this system.

Each of these embellishment ideas can be used over and over again in various ways just by changing the color of products used, switching the dies, adding a different sentiment, etc.

Even taking the embellishment to a larger level is an option and so inspiring.

Documenting color combinations that I have wanted to try or that I love to use is another category I focused on.  

I love taking bits and pieces, buttons, scraps, etc, and clipping them to my index card to inspire me even more.  Here I've taken bits of fabric scraps in the color combination noted on the card and mixed in patterns of gingham, floral, and dots, so not only am I inspired by the colors but also by the pattern combinations.

And lastly, I chose to focus a bit on the Packaging category as this is an area that I love to seek out and enjoy incorporating into my paper-crafting.  Here I've listed what I need to make a certain package come to life and have clipped it to a quick version of the package that I can tuck away inside my file system.

I've learned that my file system can be used for so much more than strictly staying organized.  To me it is completely inspirational and I can't wait to fill it day by day and will be sure to share my ideas with you here as they are placed in their new, shabby home.

I can't wait to see how the other designers have used their Desktop File:  Inspiration sets.  I know each will be unique and very much a reflection of themselves.

hello sunshine...

Such a fun day today as it is Papertrey Ink's first group post of June.  It seems I was just here with last month's projects and now a whole month has passed by.  Time flies when you're having fun!  Today we are sharing projects created with the new Hello Sunshine stamp set, coordinating dies, and the Sunrise Impression Plate.

For my first card I decided to go the opposite route with the dies and flip flopped them after die-cutting them from patterned paper, cardstock, and stamping on a few of them using images from Hello Sunshine.  I was inspired by this photo:

I loved the sunburst mirror and the different levels and layers that each sun ray had as it circled around the center.  I had to try my own version.

I used Vintage Cream cardstock and stamped the images with Aqua Mist and Sweet Blush ink to coordinate with the patterned paper I chose.

The center was also die cut from Vintage Cream cardstock and stamped with Sweet Blush ink and was then coated with Krylon Spray Adhesive and mica flakes to add some sparkle.  It is matted on a Vintage Cream felt flower cut using the Beautiful Blooms II #1 die and a large Maya Road crocheted flower. The sentiment was stamped in Classic Kraft ink on Sweet Blush cardstock cut using the Fillable Frames #8 die.  The Raspberry Truffle Crinkle Ribbon is from My Craft Spot.

 My next card uses the Sunrise Impression plate in my most favorite way, that of coating the impression plate with ink and then running it through my die cut machine along with a block of Rustic Cream cardstock.  I love how the ink fills in the negative spaces very softly and almost gives it a weathered look...just how I like it.

I also added faux stitching here and there on some of the sunbeams by just removing the thread from my sewing machine needle and running the cardstock through my machine.

The sentiment is stamped in Aqua Mist and Classic Kraft and is followed by a Vintage Cream felt border cut using the Super Stars border die.

lovely layers and framed out #5...

Hi Everyone!  Welcome to day 3 of Papertrey Ink's countdown to the June releases.  I'm excited to be sharing a couple of the new sets with you including Lovely Layers and Framed Out #5.

This first card uses the new Lovely Layers stamp set.  What a fun and easy set to work with.  It's naturally and very simply just beautiful on its own, but with the coordinating Lovely Layers dies, you can have even more fun with this set.

The bottom layer is stamped in Pure Poppy with Classic Kraft added next to bring in more detail.  I then stamped a die cut layer with Aqua Mist ink.  The next layer of flowers were die cut using the coordinating dies, Harvest Yellow, Aqua Mist, and Melon Berry felt, with die cut leaves cut from Simple Chartreuse felt. The center flowers were die cut once again and stamped in Sweet Blush and Hibiscus Burst ink.  The sentiments included in this set are darling...I love the font used and you can see one of them used here stamped in Pure Poppy on a Tiny Tag cut from Sweet Blush cardstock.  

On this card, I layered directly onto the cardstock base as well as layering die cuts and stamping onto the Limitless Layers 2.25" Square die...also a new release.

The base of the square was cut from Simply Chartreuse cardstock with a Vintage Cream layer cut for the top layer.  The bottom layer of leaves were stamped in Spring Moss ink and topped with Simple Chartreuse.  Summer Sunrise was stamped onto the die cut second layer, Berry Sorbet on the base of the next flower and topped with Raspberry Fizz...love the two-step stamping technique available with this set as it really adds depth and life to each image.  The center flower was die cut and stamped in Summer Sunrise and Hibiscus Burst.

The beautiful base image was stamped in Berry Sorbet with a smaller flower layered on top next stamped in Raspberry Fizz.

For this simple card I started with a Sweet Blush base and stamped the first layer in Sweet Blush ink.  The second layer in Simply Chartreuse, Plum Pudding was used next, and topped with a layer stamped in Spring Moss and Simply Chartreuse.  

I then die cut a layer from Simply Chartreuse felt, folded the leaves together, and tucked them behind the center flower. 

This crazy little number uses the Lovely Layers as well as the Framed Out #5 set together.  The tag is stamped in Simply Chartreuse with the center label image stamped in Orange Zest.  Then comes a Raspberry Fizz flower...love me some Raspberry Fizz, can  you tell?  

I'm crazy about Heather's choice of fonts for her sentiments, they are so much fun.

I used glitter tape from Freckled Fawn and ran it through my die cut machine using the Heart Border die...oh my!  This stuff is fun...you need some.

Next up is a little journal jar using the Framed Out #5 set as a label for the jar.  The coordinating die really makes such a fun and unique label.  

Classic Kraft and Aqua Mist are used here with a Harvest Gold button used as an accent.

The lid of the jar is covered in more fun Washi Tape from Freckled Fawn and topped with a Tim Holtz knob.  Aqua Mist satin ribbon was used around the jar and one of Melissa Frances' new flowers from her trim was used to embellish this jar as well.

And lastly, I put the Framed Out #5 die to work and stamped the inner label image directly onto the cardstock using Berry Sorbet ink.  

 

The arrow was stamped in Summer Sunrise with the sentiment stamped in Aqua Mist.  I used the new Background Basics:  Rainbow stamp along the right edge of the card and it is stamped in Sweet Blush and Aqua Mist.

I'm back for a minute today to share a little bright, happy, sweet something with you.  Have you heard of Papertrey Ink's Stamp-a-faire event?  

Beginning July 21st, Papertrey Ink will be hosting an online stamping event with tutorials and classes taught by members of the design team with so much creativity and fun waiting to be had.  An exclusive stamp set has been created for this event and everyone that places an order of $100 or more on Stamp-a-faire day (July 21) will receive this gorgeous set free of charge!  The card I've created for you today uses this sweet new set.  It's so much fun to use as it can be used in a two-step process if desired.  

I stamped the bottom layer of the flower using Raspberry Fizz ink and then stamped the coordinating top layer in a darker color, such as Plum Pudding and Scarlet Jewel.  The top layer makes the flower come to life and adds so much depth.

granny chic..

Hi again!  I have a feeling that my blog may get a bit neglected for the next couple of months, but I will post as often as I can, promise!  

Today's card is a just for fun card inspired by my sweet friend, Mish.  I just love her style and find that I am drawn to her cozy, homespun style...I am always reminded of grandma's quilts, sippin' lemonade, sheets drying on the clothesline, and buttons and stitches when I visit her blog.  

I received a delicious package from Freckled Fawn not too long ago and have been excited to create with the goodies inside....included on this card, Granny Chic Washi, Lace Doily, and Striped Twill.  I also used Papertrey Ink's Friendship Jar, Friendship Jar Summer Fillers, Jar and Lid die, and Jar Toppers die.     

Hmmm...Granny Chic...I have to say I'm intrigued by that darling arrangement of words and already hooked.  I went browsing online to see if I could get a feel for this style and wanted to share my findings with you...tell me what you think?

stars & stitches...

Hello June~  So happy you're here!  I can't remember a summer break I have been more excited for and I don't really know what the difference is other than I think I'm relaxing a bit as a mom.  Actually, I'm sure I am and it feels so good.  Our first real day on summer break and I love the sounds of my little one drifting throughout the house, her toys spread out here and there, taking her with me on errands, stopping to lay down and snuggle together, not having to say "not now" so much because we have more "us" time...she is my focus.

My project today was created for the Simple Stories blog and uses many of their Simple Basics products in the Summer Fresh Collection.  I have to say that the Summer Fresh collection is my all time favorite summer line...so much to love about it including the denim and burlap paper, sweet florals, plaid, chevron, polka dots, etc.  

 

I created a set of three cards and embellished a bag that coordinates.  I used my Papertrey Ink Seeing Stars dies to cut different sizes of stars in coordinating patterns and then stitched them  either around the edges or down the center to add a homespun feel and more texture.  I love how stitching can do that so quickly and easily.

haute couture...

The Vintage Cafe Card Challenge blog is full of fun projects this week as "Haute Couture" is the theme.  I'm always inspired by what the other designers create...they are all so incredibly talented and I love their shabby touches.  My card uses a Creative Scrap from Crafty Secrets, chipboard and wooden ruler from Maya Road, chipboard from Cosmo Cricket, stamps from Unity and Papertrey Ink, and scrunched seam binding from My Craft Spot.

boy basics revisited...

School is OUT!  I am so excited to have summer here and my little girl home.  The Papertrey Ink Sr. Design Team challenge this month was to use any of the Boy Basics stamp sets and go to town.  I started with the Boy Basics:  Simple Circles Mini Set and coordinating Simple Circles Border Die and then started adding in elements to create a fun Thanks, Teacher!  gift.

The gift includes a Vintage Cream Notepad held inside an embellished cover.  A perfect place for a teacher to write her long list of things to do.  The notepad is held inside a dressed up glassine bag, embellished with all sorts of fun items.

We'll start with the notepad...I used Rustic Cream cardstock as my base and then piled on the toppings including:
Boy Basics:  Simple Circles Mini Stamp Set, Boy Basics:  Truckin' It Mini Stamp Set, Fruit Fusion:  Apple Mini Set,  Everyday Treats Stamp Set, School Time, Simple Circles Border, Super Star Border, Fruit Fusion:  Apple Die, Mat Stack 4 Die, Tiny Tags Die Collection, Berry Sorbet, Spring Moss, Harvest Gold, True Black, and New Leaf ink, Vintage Cream felt, Berry Sorbet Swiss Dot Satin, Berry Sorbet Buttons, Harvest Gold Buttons, and It's Official Patterned Paper.

After die-cutting the Simple Circles Border, I stamped the Boy Basics:  Simple Circles Mini stamp set in coordinating colors, and then added die cut and stamped apples along the border to add to the school theme.  The border was then embellished with coordinating buttons to add dimension and a playful feel....buttons have a way of always finishing things off perfectly.  

The sweet school bus image is one of my favorites from the Boy Basics:  Truckin' It Mini stamp set.  I stamped the bus twice, once on yellow paper, once on the Melon Berry colored paper and cut the stop sign from the second stamped image and paper pieced it onto the first.

The glassine bag uses the same elements with the addition of the Library Card Mini Stamp Set.  I used the border horizontally across the top of the bag this time.

These notepads are so much fun to alter and make special...can't wait to try another for a different occasion.  I also love the Boy Basics stamp sets and think they are so much fun to use in unique ways....changing the color from masculine to feminine, combining them with other stamps sets, etc.

The other designers have special projects created for you as well.  I can't wait to see them for myself.
