every little thing...

needs to be loved...isn't it amazing what any act of love has the power to do?  Imagine a child who has never felt it before to suddenly be treated with love....to experience an act of love by someone else...love is magical, transforming, essential.  I had a night to myself last night and so I watched The Secret Life of Bees....ohhh what a sweet movie....now up there as one of my all time favorites.  It had me crying within the first 15 minutes and then here and there throughout....sometimes sad tears, but more often tears of awareness and the desire to try harder to love or find those who need to need to be loved.  I hope you'll watch it and see for yourself.

So...a warm embrace for you today as I share a couple of cards and then set off on Saturday errands.  Created with Melissa Frances papers and vintage image, Papertrey Ink Mega Mixed Messages, Life, and Beyond Basic Borders stamp sets, Rustic Cream cardstock, and Spring Rain and Chamomile Tea Dye inks, and a beautiful chipboard frame from Tattered Angels  Regal Alpha Framed Fonts collection coated in a new Glimmer Mist color for fall called Caramel Apple....one of many beautiful new colors they're coming out with for CHA...and speaking of Tattered Angels and new CHA products...here is another peek at something new and fun... I bought this cute wooden dress form from Kim Hesson and covered it with a new Bingo card from Tattered Angels....it is also coated in a new Glimmer Mist color called Creme de Rouge and embellished with Creme de Chocolat Regal Glimmer Chips and Embossed Regal Chips.

  And lastly...this little card was created for the CPS blog.  Our sponsor this week was My Sentiments Exactly....coupled with Melissa Frances paper and resin, Webster's Pages trim, and a 7gypsies shabby, painted chipboard tag.

calapitters, black gwidows, and quilts....

Oh how I love the language of my little one...her silly, innocent phrases and words make me smile and I've been trying to store all of these adorable snippets away in my mind for a rainy day.  I'm sure you know what a calapitter is and perhaps a black gwidow too?  But a quilt for those of you who may not know is a baby horse...yep...just so ya know...adorable...I adore her...she is my smile.

Sooo....today I'm having a Thank You party for all of you...you have no idea how much your notes meant to me on my rainy day :)  I'm not very good about sharing my feelings or emotions...I'm kind of a low-maintenance kind of girl....steady as they come...my husband thanks my daily :)  I'm almost certain it has to do with being raised with 3 brothers (whom I love dearly and if they happen to  read this...always remember I love you) and no girly-sisters to call my own....but I have learned from each of you that when you share your heart...your ups and downs, that others draw nearer....I have learned from past experiences that our love for one another grows when we are there for each other good times and bad....and part of that comes from sharing what is in our hearts and on our minds...so thank you my sweet, good, lovable, thoughtful, wonderful friends :)

I get to share one of my cards published in this issue with you and share a little bit about the story behind it.   I'm a lover of all things fall-ish...the colors, the smells, the names of things such as Jack-O-Lantern, pumpkin pie, apple cider, cinnamon stick, apple crisp....you get the picture...so some of my most favorite cards to create are those celebrating the warmth and coziness associated with this season...I used my Melissa Frances goodies on this...and coated the spooky cat with Doodlebug Beetle Black glitter...have you tried black glitter yet?  Gotta...you just gotta.  I'd love for you to try it on your own, so I wanted to share with you an example of using glitter other than white or clear...it's a lot of fun. 

So.....here is the beautiful cover of the newest Card Creations issue....it's tantalizing, don't ya think?    Check out that adorable elephant from Kim Hughes....and the apron!!!  Good NIGHT Sally...I adore that card...Miss Kim Kesti's creation...so much to love in this issue.  I will be trying my own apron card....I dream about it at night :)

be still my little heart...

my heart is troubled today....one of those mornings where I wake up and am instantly worried....we have a house to finish, a house to sell, a struggling economy...such a horrible time to be making our dreams come true.  When we started this process a year ago, things were in great shape....a year later and it seems foolish to be doing what we're doing....but there's no turning back now....all we can do is continue to say our prayers and be hopeful.  I dreamed about adoption last night....I don't want to be done being a mama...selfishly one baby is not enough for my aching heart and empty arms...another big worry on my mind...perhaps that's what got me started this morning....life is full of challenges and obstacles...I have experienced things in my short life that I never  dreamed would happen to me....but looking back, they have always been to my benefit....somehow, I have learned and grown from those nightmares, and have come out a better person....my rough edges have been smoothed...my heart softened...my life filled with more understanding and compassion.  So...time to think about my blessings...things that bring me joy, and I hope the worries will disappear for another day :)  I don't like to dwell on the negative...it always makes me feel ungrateful...but I suppose that in the record of our lives, we should share the cloudy days as well as the sunny ones.  It will turn into a sunny day, I just know it.  Right now my little one has found her Halloween costume and is dressed up like a witch, riding her broom, that somehow neighs like a horse...she is a true cowgirl at heart, just like her mama.

  I worked on this last night...my un-wind time.  It uses the First Fruits and Beyond Basic Borders stamp sets from Papertrey Ink along with Rustic Cream cardstock, Sweet Blush ink, and a Hibiscus Burst button.  Melissa Frances paper and resin accents are also used, Basic Grey paper, Kaisercraft adhesive pearls, and a bit of my tea-stained twill and trim.

I love the wheat bundle image in this stamp set...something about wheat makes my heart warm...it takes me away to my favorite fields in Idaho...the beauty of the fields full of grain is indescribable...and then to top it all off, seeing an old weathered barn standing alone in the field is even better :)  I should find some pictures for my house and surround myself with these images that make me so happy.

I hope you each enjoy today...time to plan ours out.

peddle pushers and flip flops

Summer is here...we are sun kissed and ripened today after an afternoon at the pool.  I love taking my little one swimming...love the way she clings to me...ventures out a bit more on her own...how she looks in her silly goggles...and how the sun feels as it dries us with it's rays...not much else to do here in our little town, but we so enjoy it.

This week at Emma's our theme is SUMMER...so I have a little refreshment for you as the temperatures start rising :)  Layers of Melissa Frances here....a complete supply list can be found HERE on the Emma's Paperie blog along with some of the cutest Summer projects I have seen....enjoy.

And, for those of you who I haven't gotten back to regarding the square of margarine issue....a square of margarine is also known as a stick according to Grandma :)  or 8 tablespoons, or 1/2 cup.

double decker love...

Happy Sweet Father's Day...hope you're enjoying it...we certainly are here.  Daddy is asleep in his favorite chair....we are in our comfies now that we're home from church....our bellies are full...presents opened...and  Sierra and I just finished frosting a Double Decker Chocolate Chocolate Cake for our boy :)  I'll share the recipe with you at the end....from scratch....so yummy...my mom made one for me and for my brothers with every birthday...homemade with lots of love I tell you.

I created this Homespun Love mini album for Creative Therapy....I was asked to be their Guest Artist this week and oh, what a treat.  I truly have loved Karen's twist on the whole creative process.  Thanks so much for inviting me to join you for a bit Karen!  For my catalyst I chose to create something based on my favorite part of being a woman...and I could never choose just one thing...I have so much to love and be thankful for...so I created a mini album to fill to the brim with different aspects of my life that I love....motherhood, sewing, quilting, baking, decorating....a work in progress, but so rewarding and fun.  I adore this chipboard mini album from Maya Road...it comes with chipboard dividers followed by a pocket where you can keep anything from photos to recipes, to journaling, to fabric bits....This pocket will hold a special note to my baby girl expressing my love to her and the wonderful privilege it is to be her mama and a woman....favorite snapshots, etc.  A place to hold my favorite quilt scraps....sweet, gentle bits that remind me of days gone by...each with their own story.

I am working on this little by little....it's a pleasure for me to sit down and create for myself, so I am loving this sweet project.  I used lots of Melissa Frances, some Prima, Crafty Secrets, Tattered Angels, and some favorite finds.

Now for my mom's yummy recipe...which is actually my Grandma Boley's recipe...how I loved everything her loving hands made....and our sleep-overs at her house...and her buttery homemade popcorn...and her icy cold Coca Colas....

Chocolate Cake

1 stick margarine                    1 tsp. salt

1 cup water                                      1 tsp. baking soda

1/4 cup caking cocoa                  1 tsp.  vanilla

2 cups sugar                                    2  eggs

2 cups flour                                      3/4 cup buttermilk

Frosting:

3 cups powdered sugar                 1  tsp. vanilla

1/4 cup baking cocoa                    1/4 cup water

1/2 square margarine

        Place margarine, baking cocoa, and water in saucepan.  Heat until margarine is melted and baking cocoa is dissolved.   Place flour, sugar, salt, and soda in a mixing bowl.  Add mixture from saucepan and blend well.  Stir in eggs and vanilla.  Add buttermilk and mix thoroughly with a spoon.  Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13 inch baking pan or 2 round cake pans.  bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes until toothpick comes out clean.  Cool.  Mix ingredients in frosting at high speed until creamy and frost cake.  Enjoy.

happiness shared...

Good Morning....how I wish I felt peppy today and could offer you a little something to make you smile or your heart sing throughout the day...but, I'm worn right out :)  The great news is....that the painting is done....it's so beautiful and warm....cozy and comfy...the walls looks good enough to lick :)....that's what I get for choosing colors like Brown Bread and Sweet Marzipan.  Today I'm off to go touch everything up....my husband is laying the tile, and then we shall be ready for the sweet sight of the cabinet truck coming up our dirt road on Wednesday...I am beside myself.  I have been having such a fun time hanging out with my guy while we've been painting....it's always such a treat to be with him....happiness should be shared, and that's what we've been doing these last few days together...I can't believe we are to this stage at last.  He broke ground on my birthday last year, July 2nd....and told me he'd have me a little bungalow built in a year...I adore him.  I told him last night that he keeps getting sweeter as the time goes on...he's always been thoughtful and gentle...but he is even more so now...how did I get so lucky?  He spoils me....pampers me... My favorite thing is hearing him whistle through the house while he's painting in one room and I'm in another....he always whistles...it's s true sign of his adorable personality.  So before I head out today, I though I'd share a card that makes me smile...makes me think of him and my little one...and family...and....all the sweet things in life.

  Love is most definitely better than ice cream...but ice cream certainly does make this girl happy...especially when it's green and minty :)  All Melissa Frances goodies here...chipboard, paper, cardstock stickers.  The trims are some fun finds....pearls from Kaisercraft, and the button from Papertrey Ink.

paint a rainbow...

Ahhhh...the smell of fresh paint...we are making progress.  Little Miss Bean's room is now Back Talk red...her choice, with a little help from mama.  Her bathroom is shabby Morning Wisp Blue....with perhaps more persuasion from her mama.  Today the yummy Sweet Marzipan yellow starts making it's way through the kitchen, extra bedroom, master bathroom....and then of course the Brown Bread to warm up the other areas....ummmm...I'm not a fan of painting....I'm not one of those people who get a little inkling to change the color of a room or two over the weekend...not me, but oh, how I envy those of you who are like this :)

Before I throw on my baseball cap and head off with my chief helper...the little shorty comes in quite handy for those break-your-back areas...I thought I'd share a little something with you.

  I love the splashes of color, soft and vibrant, on this card.  I used Papertrey Ink's Background Basics:  Spots & Dots and a sentiment from the 2008 Holiday Tag Collection.  I also used Rustic Cream cardstock, Sweet Blush ink and Swiss Dot ribbon, and an Aqua Mist Vintage button.  The flower and velvet leaves are from Prima, tag from Melissa Frances, Webster's Pages paper, and vintage calendar card from Jenni Bowlin.

fruity tuesday...

It seems I have a new fetish...I always love developing new obsessions :)  Lately my thing is FRUIT....paper, stamps, jars, jellies...the real stuff....fruit is cute, dontcha think? :)

So, today while my little one is buzzing about making me smile, I wanted to share some new favorite, fruity, stampy finds with you.

This first card uses stamps designed by a friend of mine who I adore, but who shall remain nameless, as she's sworn me to secrecy....these stamps are as endearing as she is.  What an adorable little pear, huh?  You can find her stamps at her etsy store called HappyLittleStamps...for $5 bucks...no way, but yes way :)

This next card uses fruity stamps from sweet October Afternoon...sigh...who doesn't love October Afternoon?  Love these little berry girls....paper from Melissa Frances along with the rubons and adorable vintage label.  The chipboard is from Tattered Angels along with the dusting of Glimmer Mist.

And......juicy, yummy, tantalizing Papertrey Ink stamps next up.  I used the new Fruitful stamp set on this along with Flower Garden Sentiments.  This set leaves my  mouth watering and my fingers itching to created something else.  Cardstock is Vintage Cream, ink is Ripe Avocado, Dark Chocolate, Melon Berry, and Summer Sunrise.  I used paper from Collage Press and gems from Kaisercraft. 

Lastly...one more little diddy using HappyLittleStamps...not so fruity, but a little bit sweet :)  I used the Cake and Flowers stamp set on this and turned the cupcake image into a basket filled with flowers....so much fun.  Thanks to my friend for sharing her stamps with me.

Hope you're enjoying your week so far....I sure am.  Tomorrow we PAINT!  So....life will be busy and messy and crazy for a bit.

colorful imaginings...

Good Morning....as promised, just a bit later than promised, it's time to share my Papertrey Ink release projects with you.  I seem to have the hardest time expressing the admiration I have for Nichole and the other stamp designers each month....each month I am in awe and giddy with anticipation....

   I'm loving this first set so much...it seems I close me eyes at night and I see fruit dancing across my mind....it's so much fun.  The set is called Fruitful with Fruitful Sentiments accompanying it...Candice Aguilar designed these.  I also added tags to my Orange Marmalade jars that were stamped with the new Trademarks stamp set....an essential set for sure...love the new Rustic Cream cardstock as well. 

  Next up is the cutie pie Cupcake Collection stamp set.....too cute for words I say :) And I can't wait to stamp more and more of these sweet things.

Lastly is Lisa Johnson's Heavenly Medley stamp set....love it, love it.  Perfect for Primary teachers and children, baptisms, missionaries, weddings...etc.  I love the sentiments and images....for this particular card, I stamped the chipboard with some of the beautiful images to accent the scripture on the inside of the card and the sentiment on the outside.

caramel sunshine...

I love the different shades of sunshine....the soft glow in the morning...the brilliant gold in the afternoon....but especially the caramel sunshine in the late afternoon...I love how it turns everything honey-ish and warm.  I was enjoying a book in the park while my little one was playing the other day and noticed how yummy everything looked around me.

I'm busy, busy this morning, but wanted to see if I had time to come a post a project of two for you.    I love these warm, earthy, fruity colors...and berries of course too.  The sweet vintage image is a Creative Scrap from Crafty Secrets, the die cut and green paper from Collage Press, the stamp and yellow paper from October Afternoon, the metal signage and blossoms from Making Memories.

And, for Emma's Paperie this week.  We were challenged to come up with a project based on color inspiration...this is mine....love these warm, summery colors as well....and am completely smitten with the canvas birdie from Prima.  All of the supplies I used in this can be found HERE at Emma's along with many other projects from the other designers.  They are all so beautiful.

So....my Story of Today is yet to be written....what would you write?  I'm going to be thinking about my Story all day long and will be back later to share it and my Papertrey Ink release projects with you.

vintage picnic possibilities...

Hang on to your fried chicken girls...(my mom always make fried chicken to take on picnics...it was yummy...my little family gets p-nut butter and jelly sandwiches for picnics).  The Papertrey Ink Design Team members are introducing a new and irresistible stamp set designed by Nichole Heady with concepts by Mish Wooderson...oh, how I adore it.  The set is called Vintage Picnic & Sentiments and you can visit each of our blogs tonight to see all of the images used with oodles of creative ways to use them.

    This set is so much fun...so versatile....just perfection :)  I chose a fall theme for mine...you know how I feel about pumpkins and woolly socks.  I used Dark Chocolate satin ribbon, ink, and cardstock, along with some new Rustic Wood buttons....assorted patterned paper and some Ghirardelli chocolates.  I added vintage trim to shabby up the basket a bit and bring in depth...so easy, fast, and fun to create.

my monet...

I have my very own artist living happily under my roof, under my feet, under my wings....she even serenades me with songs as she paints, colors, and creates her masterpieces....they cover the wall of her bedroom gallery....it's wonderful to see her take so much pleasure in what her tiny hands create....once again, I feel complete adoration for my little artist and wonder where her creativity will lead her throughout her life.

I haven't much time this morning, but wanted to share some fun, happy, cheery, fruity creations with you.  This was created for the Got Sketch? blog.    I used some new Collage Press and Webster's Pages paper, a fun bling-y monogram and adhesive pearls from Zva Creative, a Tim Holtz ticket stub, Basic Grey rubons, and Prima flowers.  I topped the whole thing off with a spritz or two of Walnut Gold Glimmer Mist from Tattered Angels to add a shabby, distressed look. These are some of my favorite colors right now :)

  I created this for a friend of mine (hi) to give to her daughter's teacher....I love the colors she chose for me to use on this....what a fun project this was.  I used Papertrey Ink's Teachers Apple stamp set, Raspberry Fizz cardstock, 2008 Bitty Star Basics paper, Raspberry Fizz and Ripe Avocado ink, and Raspberry Fizz satin ribbon.  I also used some Cut N Paste paper from K&Co., Making Memories blossoms, Doodlebug gems, Maya Road chipboard, and Lemon Zest Glimmer Mist from Tattered Angels.

Feeling rather lazy on this beautiful Spring-y day today...hope you have a wonderful one.

a very merry un-birthday...

Good Morning :)

Blow out the candles with me today as we go on a blog hop with Crafty Secrets.  Our challenge this month as a Design Team was to create some fun birthday themed projects.

One of my most favorite parts of gift-giving is in the presentation of the gift... so for my project I created a couple of vintage tags to top off some packages. 

 

I used some fun Maya Road Cupcakes and Party Hats chipboard for my focal points and then covered them in oodles of Crafty Secrets goodies including some Childhood Images & Journal Notes, Seasonal Calendar, and Girlfriends Creative Scraps, Travel Creative Scraps, Hardware and A Sexy Little Number Clear Stamps.

I topped each tag off with trim, glitter, ink, fabric and news print flowers, and fabric brads and then tied them to the top of packages wrapped in a brown bag and sheet music....tulle works great for bows because it's inexpensive and CUTE...and that's it...ready to rip right open :)

I want her to believe in herself...to love and accept herself and others...to look inside the heart...to stand up for truth...to pray always...to be peaceful and compassionate...to know she is a child of God...to believe she can do anything...to be blessed with the gift of charity...

She is my happiness....she and her daddy are the most wonderful gifts I have ever been given.  I'm so thankful they chose me.

I have been slowing down lately....my crafting is more about pleasure instead of passion...I have lost the fire which has pushed me so intensely....but the fire to cherish, love, and enjoy my little one has only grown stronger...there is so much to teach her, and I need all of the guidance I can possibly get....life is sweet, short, and oh so beautiful.  Isn't it wonderful to walk through the path of life holding hands with those you love....it would be meaningless without them.

summer peach passion...

I love the smell of peaches....the sun-kissed shades of peaches...their plump, fuzzy bodies....they've always been something I've loved.  My house smells sweet, juicy, and peachy this morning as yesterday I stumbled upon a new candle and brought it home with me.....crazy as it sounds...little things like this make me smile :)

Right now I'm narrowing down my long list of base colors for the inside of my house....I need to choose between Brown Bread, Marzipan, and Cookie Crumb :)  Don't they all sound mouthwatering?  We will begin painting towards the end of next week....the drywall is hung and now the texture goes on....I can't believe we're here after almost one year of building....I'm so proud of my husband.

I've been picking out pictures for my home and have fallen in love with these as of now.

This one by Cecile Baird---oh my...it makes my heart happy.

   I adore everything by the artist Jo Moulton...I'm thinking reds and creams in my master bedroom and bath... And perhaps cooler colors for my crafty room....I dunno...I'm terrible at decisions..

Speaking of peaches....I've got a couple of soft, creamy, peachy cards to share with you today.     This card uses the Remember and Flower Garden Sentiments stamp sets from Papertrey Ink...designed by Lisa Johnson...they are so beautiful.  I also used Melon Berry cardstock, Melon Berry, Dark Chocolate, Lemon Tart, and Sweet Blush ink, Vintage Cream satin ribbon, a Maya Road glittered and shabbied scallop frame, and a bit of fun new Basic Grey June Bug paper. This card was created for the CPS blog....one of my most favorite sketches.  I used more stamps from Hero Arts and pimched a scalloped heart  from a wood grain stamped circle.  Paper is from October Afternoon, gems from Zva Creative, and die cut butterfly from K&Co.

beautiful, happy, messes...

I love messes.....those that involve my little one...seeing what she'll put on, how she'll use her creativity....she amazes me.  I also love bits of paper, flowers, scraps of ribbon, snippets of fabric....they make me mind start wandering and soon those little bits of creative messes come to life....messes are fun sometimes. :)
I have a few messy little birthday cards to share with you this morning. They are all bright, juicy, happy....stampy.  Papertrey Ink Background Basics:  Stars stamp set along with the 2009 Anniversary set, Pure Poppy and Kraft cardstock, Pure Poppy and Dark  Chocolate ink, Summer Sunrise Saddlestitch ribbon, and some sweet paper from Cosmo Cricket's Girl Friday collection.

  This card uses  new favorite love of mine....It's the Hello Circles stamp set from Hero Arts.  I am crazy for those beautiful circles....especially the woodgrain image...so fun.  I also used some Webster's Pages paper, a 7gypsies typewriter embellishment, Prima flowers, a Melissa Frances rubons, and those sweet green flowers on the bottom layer are from Zva Creative.  They have such beautiful embellishments.
