After I dropped my little one off for her first day back to school this morning...I wandered about...feeling lonesome...feeling very out of sorts....then as I was shopping, I ran across a brand new bottle of colorful candy sprinkles...the kind that you'd shake all over a gooey, soft, heart shaped sugar cookie...and I thought of her...and I bought them...and I left them out all day to remind me of her and the things that we love to do together...and it helped. A phone call from my mom, a very thoughtful and timely note from my friend Stella...I can do this Second Grade thing...I don't wanna, but I can :)
I can get so many things done...I organized her Polly Pockets, her Ponyville Ponies, her Pet Shops....tomorrow I'll shine up the windows so that it can rain and blow dust on them...I've been waiting for the rain...it makes me like homemade soup on the stove and woolly socks.
This little card uses some of Basic Grey's new Curio Collection...ohhhh, be still my heart, it's so beautiful.
And, before I go, a card created with Papertrey Ink's new Leaf Prints stamp set...it's becoming a favorite of mine. The sentiment is from the Friendship Jar Fall Fillers set.
The leaf was cut using the Leaf Prints coordinating die and vellum cardstock from Papertrey Ink.
The yummy, warm, scrunched seam binding is from Memrie Mare's etsy shop, and the cameo from Webster's Pages.
The lights are flickering....a beautiful thunderstorm is about to hit. Can't wait to smell the rain-kissed sage and cedars in the morning.
Night.
Melis
I love hearing about your world, over here in Aus we have had the warmest, most deliciously windy day, now that we are coming out of winter :)

Your blog is an inspiration to all, in England we are at the end of summer going into Autumn. That lost feeling when the children return to school never leaves you even when they get older. My children are adults now and I get such a thrill when they are all at home visiting but there is an emptiness when they go, treasure the special moments and times you have with you little girl but remember your memories never leave you - Jacqueline

I am glad you came through the first day. Good thing you bought those sprinkles..... Sierra will love them and with the weekend coming up it's a good reason to bake some sugar cookies together. And enjoy them together....
I know exactly what you mean; time flies and before you know they are grown up. My sons are already 23 and 19......
My heart is filled with many beautiful and heartwarming memories of their childhood. It's the greatest gifts of life; making memories as a mother.....
Love your cards; as always.....
Have a wonderful day

When I was little I would come home from school to find my mum had washed my dolls and they would be sitting in a neat clean pram waiting for me ... it never occurred to me then that she was going through the same thing you are now ... as I did with my one and only ... love is a beautiful gift that twists and turns your heart ... but so worthwhile ...
Beautiful cards Melis ...

Yay, you did it! The first day of school is always hardest on the Moms I think (teachers might think differently)! I love that you bought candy sprinkles to think of her all day, so sweet...in more ways than one! And your cards are gorgeous...it's all your fault that Leaf Prints will be going in my cart ASAP...so, thanks ;)

Beautiful cards, as always!! I have a hard time with the first day of school too . . . mainly because it marks my girls being a year older. They'll be starting 1st and 3rd grade next month. How wonderful that you bought some colored sprinkles!

Oh my goodness Melis, I completely understand. I'm so glad your Mom called and that Sweet Stella sent you a sweet note. I'll share a secret with you - I love to photograph my little Minime's room, her toys the way she leaves them as if they are in a theatrical play, and especially the ones who appear to have been left haphazardly by the way side. Big Hugs to you my friend.

What a wonderful way to make the day go by for you & your little one was probably so excited to come home & tell you all about her 1st day of 2nd grade. No matter how many years go by, they still pull at your heart strings - savor it all as you seem to do! Hugs. (Love what you are doing with the leaf stamps & dies).

I always love your cards, Melissa! I agree with you--love to make homemade soup and warm socks on the feet when it rains or snows!

Can anyone describe the feeling as beautifully as you did?
You're such a beautiful writer, those beautiful art works of yours are just extensions of that.
