Hi there and welcome back. Nichole challenged us to dig through our past projects and recreate one of them to show how our styles have changed...I loved this assignment as I feel I have most definitely found a niche for myself that is comfortable and that feels like home.
This card was created back in 2009 using the With Sympathy stamp set. You'll notice the use of bling in the form of gems...a very popular item then as I think they were kind of just emerging, and they are still ultra popular. You'll also notice the ever coveted Martha Stewart butterfly punch die...I had to have that thing or I thought I'd just die :). And, you'll notice the absence of technique :)...I was a newbie and still wary of trying anything too outside of my comfort zone.
So, fast forward to 2014, and you'll notice that my love affair with vellum is pretty noticeable. I don't even remember vellum being using too much in card making in 2009, but thank goodness, some creative genius started getting us all hooked on it. 2 or 3 step stamping...something I would never have tried before and not too common in the stamping world, is one of my very most favorite ways to stamp nowadays. This card uses The Sweet Life stamp set for my flower and the Fancy That set for my sentiment.
Also, sequins have kind of taken the place of gems and I'm so tickled about their appearance in the paper-crafting world. Also, heat embossing...something I wouldn't dare try back then, I just love now, especially over vellum.
And, texture, texture, texture in the form of burlap, canvas, and fabric. Adding these elements in some form is definitely a mainstay in my paper-crafting tool box now. And, what did we ever do without dies that coordinate with our stamp sets? Good gracious...they are a lifesaver and have really transformed the paper-crafting/stamping world I'd say.
So, thankfully my style has emerged. I have loved watching trends come and go and like I said before, finding my happy place in all of it. Grasping on to some trends, and letting others pass me by. Trying out new techniques, loving some, and letting some go. It's been a beautiful journey :).

Melis
I remember your 2009 card Melis and loved your style then as I do now. It's always been a style that I connected with - with your love of all things homespun and shabby chic. Love that sweet new card and it's gorgeous stamped rose and gold sequins - you always include bibs and bobs that make me swoon. xxL

I totally remember the 1st card, in fact CASED it several times & sent it on. Love both, as I do all your creations. The details on your cards are so beautiful, & give me so much inspiration, as I know I'd never think of using what you incorporate. Thanks for your encouraging words, & your lovely projects!

Both cards are beautiful, Melis, then and now! I do love the heat embossing on the vellum.

it's funny that you mention that vellum wasn't popular in card making in 2009. When I started making cards in 1996-ish, vellum was everywhere! I'm so glad it is back.

I am always so impressed with the way you combine different elements and make them all come together...in your early work and in your latest version. You inspire!
