Hello! I'm so happy to be here with you today with Tips & Tricks from Papertrey Ink! My post is all about my 2017 holiday crush....Buffalo Plaid! Let's start with a few photos I found that inspired me to create with plaid for the upcoming holiday season.

This is such a simple approach to creating handmade tags for the holidays. All you need is cardstock of your choice, I went with Pure Poppy, but Americana or Scarlet Jewel would be really fun to try as well. And then or course, your Background Basics: Super Gingham stamp set and True Black ink.
The rest is so easy and fun! For this tag, I used the Basic Bookmark 2 die and stamped my plaid across a portion of the bottom, leaving the rest plain. I then used the Holiday Tag Along kit, layering on a pre-printed tag and sequins from this kit and then a fun, paper-bow, created with paper from the Make it Market: Wonderland Kit and the Simple Gift Bow die.
Next, I selected a different tag die, the Stitched Tag, and stamped the entire thing using the Background Basics: Super Gingham stamp. I added a contrasting bit of patterned paper across the top of my tag and then started dressing it up.
I stamped my sentiment on a Double Ended Banner die, using the Traveler's Journal: December stamp set. Next, I added die cut holly leaves, using the Seasonal Stitching: Holly die and a stamped and die cut bow using the Gift Card Cozy Bow die.
The darling Wrap it Up die collection may just be my most favorite to use for unique holiday gift tags. You can see here that I've created a plaid box using the same supplies as on the other two tags and dressed it up using contrasting patterned paper and corrugated cardstock.
One of my most favorite things about plaid is that is creates such a cozy, homespun feel and lends itself so well to combining patterned paper and other mediums such as corrugated cardsxtouck. The tag was stamped using a sentiment from the Berry Wreath stamp set and the pine sprigs were cut using the Shaped Sayings: Christmas dies.
Something else that is lots of fun to try with your stamped Buffalo Plaid backgrounds is die cutting shapes from it, such as shown here where I've used the Dash Away All die. Love how this tag turned out and can't wait to try other shapes such a a Christmas tree, star, bow, etc.
I used the Berry Wreath Tag die and stamped it using the Berry Wreath stamp set in New Leaf. I then layered on my plaid deer and added sequins from the Holiday Tag Along Kit. Lastly, just a few embellishments such as adhesive pearls and baker's twine. So easy and quick and I love the results!
I can't wait to see what you come up with! Merry Christmas and happy crafting!
All of the Papertrey Ink supplies I've used on my tags are listed for you below.
Melis
Wow! Wow! Wow! Absolutely gorgeous, Melissa! I am from the Adirondacks in NY state, and this woodsy, cozy look you have created reminds me so much of the cold winters, and snowy Christmases I remember having there as a child. You have beautifully inspired me. Thank you! :)

This is my favorite tag idea. I just returned from our annual Maine holiday and these echo the rustic beauty of the woods.

These are absolutely fantastic, so I rushed over to PTI to order the background basics set and the cheapest offering of shipping was $8.65 (for 1 stamp set? That could ship first class parcel for under $4). Sadly, I didn't order and will also pass this along to PTI. Why have a super awesome design member who can actually sell product and then charge ridiculous shipping. Not your fault, you did your job perfectly! Thank you for always making such inspiring things!

These are fabulous! I am so a buffalo plaid girl. I just made a card where the background was red card stock with the super gingham stamped in black. I think you were reading my mind. lol Can't wait to make some tags using this great combo.
